The selection of the architectural design for the new addition to the Stockholm Library was conducted in an international open idea competition format. With the unique climate in Sweden, the proposed design addresses the use of daylight at the upper portion of the new addition with the primary circulation axis corresponding to the existing library. The street level facade is highly permeable and interactive to provide easy access and latest news around the world. This new library will be perceived as an information hub for patrons to connect with the rest of the world. To promote the idea of flexibility of different departmental sizes within the library, the open floor plan plays a significant role to future library operation. By eliminating the specific designation of floor level, the ramps provide seamless circulation for patrons who can ascend from street level to upper floor. This project was executed with Chong Partners Architecture.
